World We Imagine Part 3
Pacific Pathways Foundation
Honoring Isla Roots, Shaping Global Futures
Imagine this: after years of hard work and dreaming of a brighter future, you finally get into your dream university. Your family is celebrating, and it feels like all your sacrifices have paid off. But then reality hits. Your financial aid falls short, and you’re forced to decline the offer. The dream you worked so hard for becomes the one thing you have to give up, not because of your ability, but because of financial barriers.
For many students in the Pacific Islands, this is their reality. A lack of financial support often forces them to stay on the island, closing doors to the opportunities they deserve. That’s why I created the Pacific Pathways Foundation: to make sure students don’t have to choose between their dreams and financial constraints.

Our Mission
Pacific Pathways Foundation is dedicated to empowering students from the Pacific Islands by providing financial support, mentorship, and resources to make higher education accessible and equitable. We honor the rich cultural heritage of the islands while fostering the next generation of leaders who will shape a brighter future for their communities and the world.
Why Am I Passionate?
My passion for creating the Pacific Pathways Foundation stems from seeing firsthand how financial barriers can hinder the dreams of students from the Pacific Islands. I’ve known friends and classmates who had to turn down offers from their dream universities simply because they couldn’t afford the cost. Others made it off the island but had to come back after just a couple of years because the costs became too much. For many, the only way to afford college is by joining the military—an unfair reality for students who don’t even have voter representation in the government they serve. Additionally, Pacific Islanders have some of the lowest rates of completing a bachelor’s degree compared to other ethnic groups, highlighting a systemic issue in access to education. These aren’t just statistics to me; they’re real stories of people I’ve known whose potential goes untapped. No student should have to give up their dreams because of financial need. Pacific Pathways Foundation can help students pursue higher education and build a future they can be proud of—one that honors their roots while opening doors to new possibilities.
Uniqueness of Organization
Scholarship Award: The Pacific Pathways Foundation is designed to help students from the Pacific Islands overcome the financial barriers of higher education. Each year, 5-10 students will receive $50,000 per year, split by semester, with $40,000 for tuition and $10,000 for a living allowance. The scholarship also includes flights: one from the Pacific Islands to the U.S. for the start of their program, one return flight after graduation, and an additional round-trip flight at any point during their undergraduate studies.
Eligibility Criteria: Eligibility is open to students living in the Pacific Islands, whether or not they are ethnically Pacific Islanders. This ensures inclusivity while prioritizing Pacific Islanders who often face challenges in accessing higher education. Applicants must come from families with an income of less than $80,000, have a high school GPA of 3.5 or above, and be applying to a U.S. college or university for a 4-year program. Each applicant will also submit a writing sample that reflects their vision for a better world.
Requirement During Undergrad: Once enrolled, scholars will be required to complete a passion project during their undergraduate years. The project must relate to raising awareness or advancing the island or country they come from, creating a connection between their education and their home. To continue receiving the scholarship, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. This requirement balances understanding the challenges of adjusting to life on the mainland while encouraging academic effort.
Post-Graduation Commitment: After graduating, students pursuing careers in fields like healthcare, social work, or government will be expected to return to the Pacific Islands and work for at least two years. This is to ensure their education benefits their home communities and addresses pressing challenges like the aging workforce and talent shortages. To provide flexibility, recipients can fulfill this requirement either right after graduation or within five years, allowing them time to gain professional experience before returning home.
